Building custom BPM solutions on Alfresco Process Services (APS) shouldn't require reinventing the wheel with ad-hoc Docker files, manual overlay configurations and fragmented notes.

The Alfresco Process Services SDK (APS SDK) was created to standardize, streamline, and accelerate the entire developer lifecycle. Today, as APS SDK 3.x powers production workloads on Java 17/21 and modern APS 24.x through 26.x, we are thrilled to launch our brand new documentation portal:

🎨 What’s New on the Documentation Portal?

The website has been reimagined from the ground up to give developers the fastest, smoothest experience possible:

⚡

Instant Single-Page App

Powered by Docsify for instantaneous page loads with zero disruptive reloads.

🔍

Seamlessly view guides and configurations on phones with our dedicated top navigation and sidebar drawer.

🌙

Developer Dark Theme

High-contrast, syntax-highlighted code blocks tailored for comfortable day-and-night reading.

🚀 What Does APS SDK 3.x Deliver?

If you haven't upgraded your development workflow to the 3.x generation yet, here is what the SDK brings out of the box:

1. Native Multi-Architecture Docker Stack (Apple Silicon + x86_64)

Say goodbye to emulation lag! The SDK natively executes on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and x86_64 Linux/Windows hosts, automatically bootstrapping a complete production-mirror topology:

  • Alfresco Process Services (APS) runtime
  • PostgreSQL with dedicated persistent database volume
  • Elasticsearch container for process search and audit indexing
  • Activiti Admin Application for queue monitoring and engine administration

2. Instant Project Generation with Maven Archetype

You can scaffold a clean, modular APS project in seconds directly from Maven Central:

BASH / TERMINAL Maven Central
mvn archetype:generate \
  -DarchetypeGroupId=io.github.alfresco-aps-sdk \
  -DarchetypeArtifactId=aps-project-archetype \
  -DarchetypeVersion=3.1.3 \
  -DgroupId=com.example \
  -DartifactId=my-aps-project \
  -Dversion=1.0.0-SNAPSHOT \
  -Dpackage=com.example.aps \
  -DinteractiveMode=false

3. Two-Tier Automated Testing

The SDK separates fast feedback from full verification:

  • In-Memory Unit Tests: Fast BPMN process flow and JavaDelegate logic execution using an embedded H2 engine.
  • End-to-End Integration Tests: Automated verification against your live containerized APS cluster using a generated Swagger/OpenAPI Java SDK.

🏛️ Comprehensive Version Compatibility Matrix

Whether your enterprise is running the latest APS releases or maintaining legacy production clusters, the SDK maintains dedicated branches to support your roadmap:

Branch SDK Version APS Versions Java Runtime Status
3.x APS SDK 3.x APS 24.1.0 – APS 26.2.0 Java 17, Java 21 Active (Latest)
2.x APS SDK 2.x APS 2.0.0 – APS 2.4.5 Java 11, Java 17 Maintenance
master APS SDK 1.x APS 1.9.0.5 – APS 1.11.5 Java 8, Java 11 Maintenance
